After your alignment process is complete, the period of retention begins and really never ends. Retaining the benefits of your adjustments needs to be your top priority. Alignment completion leads to retention commencement.

At Mercy Dental, we will guide you in your retention process. You will need to wear a retainer to help maintain the results that you are enjoying.

During your lifetime, growth will happen, habits will come and go, and unwanted teeth can erupt. You will be instructed to wear a retainer to help fight against any changes that happen in your mouth that might encourage movement of your teeth. The way to preserve your alignment integrity is to utilize lifetime retention. This lasting management requires that you wear a removable retainer at night for an average of 4 to 7 nights per week.

To care for your retainer, you will need to remove it before brushing and eating. To clean your retainer, rinse it with water and wash it with soap. When your retainer is not in your mouth, keep it in the case given to you for storage. Keep your retainer away from your dog, for some reason, they are attracted to your saliva and they will use your retainer as a chew toy, if you’re not careful.
